The Batmobile!!!
What a crazy car to see in person right? Snapped a few photos and took an HD video of the car coming into our showroom, come on down and check it out in person! The car number is 003. In 1954 as did most manufacturers, Ford’s “high-end” premiere flagship-line, Lincoln designed a futuristic concept vehicle. It was called the Lincoln Futura and it was unlike anything ever seen before or since. As was a common practice for such concept vehicles, the work was sublet to a specialty coach builder. In the case of the Futura, the work was handled by Carrozzoria Ghia in Turin, Italy.
Once completed, the cost for this single prototype was reported to be $250,000! This was a staggering sum for any vehicle and at today’s dollar values nearly incomprehensible. This was purely a concept vehicle meant to garner attention and never intended to be put into production. The car was debuted at the Chicago Auto Show in January of 1955. The car appeared in a variety of television and print advertisements as well as numerous shows and other automotive venues. The excessively daring styling did not date well and by the mid-1960s was no longer wanted by Lincoln or Ford. It ended up with car customizing and fabrication “wizard” George Barris.
